Nintendo Releases New Patch for Breath of the Wild

Nintendo released a new patch, Version 1.1.1, for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Friday, fixing frame rate problems that occurred when the game was played in dock mode.

The hardware and software seemed to have trouble with jumps in resolution while the game was played in dock mode, hurting performance and causing inconsistencies with frame rates, which is precisely the problem Nintendo aimed to fix in the recent patch.

The description for 1.1.1 does not have many details about what has been changed, however. Nintendo’s official notes state nothing more than “Adjustments have been made to make for a more pleasant gaming experience.”

The updates – whatever they were – seem to have made a difference. Breath of the Wild players have noted that places that used to have consistent frame drops now have stable rates of 30 frames per second, a welcome change to most Switch fans.

For most reviewers, including well-known sites like IGN and Polygon, the problem with frame rates was the only thing detracting from a perfect review of the highly-anticipated Zelda game and one of Nintendo’s most successful launch titles of all time.
